Award-Winning Documentary Comes to Laurieton Sydney Film Festival award-winning documentary Floodland is coming to Laurieton Services Club on Saturday, 10th October 2026. Hosted by LUSC and Lyne Together, this special free screening will be followed by an expert panel discussion focused on disaster resilience and emergency preparedness for our local community. Floodland captures the devastating 2022 Lismore floods through the eyes of the residents who lived through them. Moving beyond the news cycle, the film highlights First Nations healing practices and community-led solutions that are vital for Australia’s future in the face of a changing climate. Special Panel Discussion on Local Emergency Resilience Following the screening, an expert panel will discuss ways to minimise risk during a local emergency. The panel includes representatives from Health, Local Government, and the SES – bringing together the voices and expertise our region needs to hear. The story of the Lismore floods is an opportunity for our regional community to learn about disaster resilience in the face of droughts and bushfires. It’s an invitation to pull together and reflect on how communities can bounce back in the face of hardship. Celebrating Our Local Heroes Off the Front Line We absolutely love hosting this event each year, and this year was no exception. It’s always a highlight on our calendar to see our local emergency services come together in a relaxed and friendly setting, away from the demands of their important work. From the ambos to the firies and the police, it’s wonderful to watch these dedicated men and women enjoy some friendly competition, plenty of laughs, and the chance to strengthen the bonds that help keep our community safe every single day. Events like this are a reminder of just how much our emergency services mean to the Laurieton community. The camaraderie on display is something truly special, and we’re proud that Laurieton Services Club can play a small part in bringing these incredible people together. A huge thank you to everyone who participated and made the night such a great occasion. We can’t wait to do it all again next year! Celebrating Four Decades of the Camden Haven Garden Club Laurieton United Services Club was proud to host the 40th Anniversary celebrations of the Camden Haven Garden Club — a remarkable milestone marking four decades of friendship, community and a shared love of gardening. Port Macquarie-Hastings Mayor Adam Roberts attended the event to help recognise this significant occasion, and we were honoured to welcome him alongside so many wonderful members. A Club Built on Passion and Community Founded in 1985, the Camden Haven Garden Club began as a small gathering of local gardening enthusiasts who simply wanted to share ideas and foster a love of all things green. Over the past 40 years, it has flourished into a thriving community organisation with a diverse calendar of activities, including guest speakers, educational workshops, garden visits, bus trips, flower shows and community projects. The club has also published regular newsletters and supported local initiatives, remaining a welcoming place for seasoned gardeners and beginners alike. The anniversary celebrations also took a moment to honour the founding members whose vision helped establish the club. Special acknowledgement was given to Foundation President Joy Ward, Treasurer Kath Warren and Secretary Lesley Hindly, whose dedication and passion laid the foundations for what has become one of the Camden Haven’s longest-standing community organisations. A heartfelt congratulations to all past and present members who have contributed to the club’s success. Your commitment and friendship have created a wonderful legacy that continues to enrich the local community. We wish the Camden Haven Garden Club many more years of growth, blooming success and shared camaraderie.
