FLOODLAND Community Screening at Laurieton Services Club

October 21, 2026

Hosting FLOODLAND: Floods, Resilience and Community Conversation

Over the weekend, Laurieton United Services Club was proud to host a special community screening of FLOODLAND – an event designed to encourage conversation, reflection and learning around floods, resilience and the experiences of communities impacted by natural disasters.

This is a topic that sits particularly close to home for us here in the Camden Haven and across the Mid North Coast. Our region has experienced the devastating impact of major flooding firsthand, and during these events, LUSC has also held the important responsibility of opening our doors as an evacuation centre for our community.

A Meaningful Afternoon Brought Together by Our Community

A huge thank you to Joanne and Kay from LyneTogether for their incredible work in bringing this event together alongside the Club. The time, care and effort that went into creating such a meaningful community event was greatly appreciated.

We would also like to sincerely thank Uncle Bob for opening the afternoon with a Welcome to Country, and Nettie McCoubrie for doing a fantastic job moderating the panel discussion. Our wonderful panellists – Blayne West from Port Macquarie-Hastings Council, Kim-maree Doolan from Disaster Recovery at Mid North Coast Local Health District, and Carolyn Dobson from Camden Haven SES – each brought valuable knowledge, lived experience and perspective to the conversation. Thank you all for helping make it such a meaningful afternoon.

What’s Next: Sustainability and Education at LUSC

Events like FLOODLAND form part of a much bigger conversation we want to continue at LUSC. As a Club, we’re committed to continuing our sustainability journey and finding more opportunities to bring our community together to learn, prepare, share ideas and create positive change.

We’d love to hear from you. What sustainability-focused events would you like to see at the Club? Educational talks, practical workshops, flood and emergency preparedness sessions, waste and recycling, energy and water conservation, or local environmental projects – your ideas help shape what we bring to the community.

Let us know in the comments on our Facebook post, and thank you to everyone who joined us for FLOODLAND and helped make it such a meaningful event.
