Laurieton United Services Club Women’s Auxiliary donate $12,000 to the Laurieton RSL Sub Branch

– by Laura Telford The Laurieton United Services Club Women’s Auxiliary has donated $12,000 to the Laurieton RSL Sub Branch to help support veterans. The ladies group has been hosting bingo events at the club and generously community members have made the donation possible. The money was handed over at the Laurieton RSL Sub Branch’s annual Christmas party on december 14. Laurieton RSL Sub Branch president John (Budgie) Parrott said the donation was much appreciated. “Without the support of groups like the Laurieton United Services Club Women’s Auxiliary we would not be able to support veterans when they return home,” Mr Parrott said.read more +

Laurieton United Services Club acts as evacuation centre for Camden Haven residents

– by Peter Daniels ​Twelve hundred people flocked to the Laurieton United Services Club at the height of Friday night’s emergency warning as bushfires threatened the southern end of the local government area. As a shelter from the threat, there were also some 130 animals including lizards, birds, dogs and cats. Many had bunkered down for the night, expecting to stay for the long haul, said the club’s secretary manager Rob Dwyer. “What unfolded last night (November 8) was a fantastic attribute to this community,” he said. “Under trying conditions they came together for the benefit of everyone. “Our community and staff did a wonderful job last night. “We had residents from Kew, Kendall, Dunbogan, Laurieton and Johns River here. “The camaraderie among everyone was really quite special,” he said. The accompanying video was shot on a hot January day in a warehouse. “It was hard to make it look like we were so not breaking a sweat,” the recently married star says. Lawrence says outrageous is the way she lives her life. “It’s how the songs came together. Rather than over thinking it, they’re fun. I wrote one after Ike was born [nine months ago]. New grass green officially opens to bowlers at Kew Country Club

– by Liz Langdale Bowlers have given the new playing surface at Kew Country Club a green tick of approval after its first test on Wednesday, June 12. The project to establish a new grass playing turf has been a major community effort and one which has unfolded over several months. Kew Women’s Bowling Club president Jenny Easy said the grass green will bring members on a level playing field when they compete in pennants.  ​The majority of clubs in the region have grass as their playing surface. “It’s great that we can now practice on this surface to prepare for competitions,” Jenny said.Read More +

LUSC action coincides with NSW drink driving laws

– by Liz Langdale Laurieton United Services Club manager Rob Dwyer says the club has taken steps to ensure safety for residents after new drink driving laws were implemented. The new NSW laws were introduced on Monday, May 20, where by all drink-driving offenders can immediately lose their licence.  According to the NSW Roads and Maritime Services website, prior to the reforms all drivers charged with drink driving were required to attend court. “Drivers who were charged with a low range offence did not lose their licence immediately, and were able to continue to drive until their court date,” it states.  Read More +
